“In today’s world of mass production, where our sensibilities are bombarded by plastic and machine made everything, where time is squandered in the rush to grasp for a materialism far beyond our needs. Pause for a moment. Look at the handiwork of real artisans, the beauty and utility. Ponder a creation that took love and time – to create something that is love and is timeless.”

OUR VALUES
Our in-house promises which are intended to establish and maintain our intentions towards sustain-ability and a more positive social and environmental impact :
We acknowledge we can always improve and grow and learn.
We will strive to always improve and grow and learn.
We support and promote traditional hand craftsmanship and look to promote and support disadvantaged communities through the practice of ‘trade not aid’.
We authentically tell the stories whilst we strive to inspire others to join us in improving their practices too.
We share openly our positive (or less negative) resources.
SOCIAL IMPACT
All of our garment production is carried out by small production practices who instil a positive company culture. We work closely with them to ensure that they provide fair working conditions where employees needs are considered and met. Examples include transport to work, working hours, any illnesses or disabilities, consideration of children at home and so on.
Our social impact values insist that those in the workplace are set to have their lives improved through employment, not simply sustained; where respect, quality and care surpass in priority over demand, speed and deadlines. Where transparency and long term sustainability are at the core.
Outside of our main garment production partners, we strive to involve other social groups where possible; collaborating with them in celebration of their craft or skill and providing income and upliftment through the partnership therein.
ENVIRONMENT : MATERIALS
TEXTILES // Our company values insist that we only work with materials and textiles which are either 100% natural/biodegradable or are recycled/up-cycled. No new plastic materials are used in any part of Asha : Eleven products.
The Core Collection is made up of Hemp & Organic Cotton jersey for the T-shirts and Turtle necks. Our Trousers from the Core Collection are made from a blend of Tencel and Linen and our Blouses are made from pure Tencel.
The Seasonal Collections feature our trademark prints in 100% ECOVERO™ by LENZING™. The natural and renewable raw material wood comes from FSC® or PEFC™ certified and sustainably managed forests. The cellulose fibers are biodegradable and compostable and the production of ECOVERO™ has a substantially smaller environmental footprint. Their intention is to help build a cleaner and greener world by taking less from the environment, maximizing resource efficiency and minimizing waste in the production process.
In addition to ECOVERO™, the seasonal collections include a range of other sustainable sourced natural fibres including cottons, linen, Suzani textiles and upcycled Kantha cloth.
PRINTING and DYING // All our printed fabrics are printed digitally with certified OEKO-TEX ® Standard 100. Digital printing has a much lower environmental impact than screen or roller printing; there is very little waste and it uses almost no water. OEKO-TEX ® Standard 100 certifies that it is harmless in human ecological terms.
ENVIRONMENT : PACKAGING + DISTRIBUTION
PACKAGING //
We have a zero-tolerance to plastic policy at Asha : Eleven.
Wholesale orders suppled to other retail stores are individually packaged in bio-plastic bags (made from plants) which are 100% biodegradable.
If you shop online or visit us in studio, our packaging is all either recycled, recyclable/biodegradable and reusable, including our biodegradable courier mailer bags.
All our on-garment packaging is kept to a minimum and made from recycled paper.
DISTRIBUTION //
Distribution is challenging; it’s a crucial part of the business yet it potentially has one of the biggest negatively contributing factors towards climate change. Our solution is to balance out the Co2 emissions we contribute to the atmosphere from transporting materials and sending out product to our customers by carbon offsetting. The process is fairly straight forward; the money we pay for our Co2 emissions goes directly towards planting trees which absorb the Co2 and emit more oxygen. We plant trees and offset our Carbon emissions with Greenpop SA.
UPCYCLING + RECYCLING
Closing the loop on our material and textile use has been a multiple year goal. Since the brand was founded in 2018 we have been upcycling our garment production textile waste into a range of Upcycled products. The process sees as much of our ‘off cuts’ (would be waste) which we generate from making clothing, made into forever items. Items which are practical, beautiful and designed to last.
Despite using up as much of the waste as possible, we are still left with a considerable amount of waste which we deem ‘unusable’ (ie. too small to create into something else). Since March 2022, we found a solution to this. Our recycling partners recycle all of this waste into post-consumer products. We are then able to acquire some of this recycled fibre in the form of ‘batting’ (a sort of quilting fibre) which we have introduced into a range of fully lined winter jackets. This process enables us to fully close the loop on our entire garment production process.
